Spendor LPZ (Linear Pressure Zone) tweeter:
The new Spendor LPZ tweeter is built around a stainless steel front plate that forms a damped acoustic chamber directly in front of a lightweight woven polyamide diaphragm. The front plate incorporates a phase correcting micro foil to equalise sound wave path lengths across the diaphragm surface, simultaneously it generates a symmetrical pressure environment on both faces of the tweeter diaphragm so the tweeter operates in a balanced linear mode. The result is perfect focus, uninhibited sound transmission and a very wide listening window. The front plate also provides excellent mechanical protection for the delicate tweeter dome and a smart modern appearance.
Spendor 18cm drive units developed for D7.2:
The D7.2 mid-bass drive unit has an advanced EP77 polymer cone for superb clarity and vanishingly low colouration. The D7.2 low frequency drive unit has an ultra-rigid two part bonded Kevlar composite cone assembly for accurate powerful low frequency response.
Fifth generation Spendor Linear flow port technology:
Our new fifth generation Spendor Linear flow port incorporates an aerodynamically profiled central baffle (like an aircraft wing) to create a tapered twin-venturi port. Air at the port extremities is decelerated and there is a further reduction in air velocity in the large tapered area at the cabinet base. The result is evenly balanced acoustic pressure and air-flow along the whole length of the port. Spendor`s Linear Flow port technology delivers deep articulate bass with natural timing, even in small rooms or close to a wall.
Spendor dynamic cabinet damping:
In conventional loudspeakers rigid high density cabinet panels are mass-damped to reduce cabinet-talk. Spurious energy is stored and released slowly. This introduces unacceptable blurring and slowing of the sound. Spendor`s solution is asymmetric aperture bracing of the cabinet to disperse internal waves. Dynamic Damping with small low mass constrained polymer dampers at key energy interface points instantly convert any spurious energy in the cabinet into inaudible heat. The result is a silent rigid cabinet and naturally fast engaging sound.
Elegant modern design:
The D7.2 looks as good as it sounds. A new premium finish perfectly complement today`s on-trend interiors: Spendor White, a silky smooth pure white lacquer, for a distinctive contemporary look. Standard finishes are Black Oak, Oak, Walnut, Satin White and Cherry. The plinth is satin black lacquer to complement all finishes.

What HiFi? Magazine Ultimate Guide, 5-star review, October 2013
“Exceptional detail and dynamics; huge, deep sound for size; unfussy over positioning; lovely build. Small but perfectly formed, the Spendor D7s set the standard for speakers at this price.”
What HiFi? Magazine. Temptations, 5-star review, July 2013
” Massively deep bass and wide dynamic range is a difficult challenge for any speaker. The D7s take it all in their stride. Massively detailed; exceptional dynamics; precise presentation; huge cohesive sound.”
What HiFi? Magazine 5-star review, June 2013
“The finest Spendor speakers we’ve heard in years. When it comes to insight and precision, these floorstanders set the standard at this price.”
HiFi Choice Magazine 5-star review, April 2013
“…I think Spendor has surpassed itself, offering all that’s good about the marquee in sonic terms and adding power, punch and precision. The result is a speaker that`s lovely to listen to, no matter what you throw at it. It doesn’t editorialise, works well in realistically-sized rooms, is a friend to your amplifier and even looks the part. If you`re after a great all-round, affordable, high-end loudspeaker then here it is, and it’s possibly Spendor’s best box yet.”
HiFi Critic audio excellence review, September 2013
“The Spendor technology deployed here will run and run. It has a decent helping of the original mid 1970s BBC magic midrange but with a modern twist. For those with the ears to hear it, here is a modern interpretation of the classically neutral, accurate and well integrated design. The D7 is easy to drive, truly compatible with valve amplifiers, and also genuinely efficient. Undemanding of placement, it has fine stereo and extended powerful bass, sounds upbeat and well balanced, and will drive larger rooms as required. And the build and finish is first rate: what more can one ask? “
HiFi+ Magazine, Issue 106, December 2013
“What is obvious is that this is a seriously revealing and low distortion loudspeaker, one that shifts the Spendor name several rungs up the ladder in terms of its ability to compete on the world stage. Combine this with the phenomenal build and finish quality on offer and you have an extremely attractive speaker, one which should turn on audio enthusiasts of the traditional school that the brand has long attracted.”

“The thing is though, I’m pretty sure if you’re reading this, you aren’t a reviewer. You’re looking to exchange a considerable sum of money for a speaker that will deliver your music collection in a manner that is unfailingly accurate but enjoyable with it. The chances are you want it to look smart and not dominate the space it’s in. You want it to do impressive audiophile things to impress your mates and play something loud and embarrassing when you want it to impress you. What the D7.2 does is deliver these various abilities better than anything I’ve yet tested at the price. As my tweet noted earlier, the D7.2 is a softly spoken Modern Great; a viceless piece of acoustic engineering and something that is an indisputable Best Buy.” – Ed Selley
